All About SSL Certificate

Heard about SSL Certificate? Yes, the very vital website security tool that your web business must have! Let’s help you understand it easily in upcoming columns!

With a majority of business moving over the web, it has become even more important for business owners to keep their websites free from the menace of hackers and more and that’s where the concept of website security is grabbing unprecedented importance.

In the context of the same, an SSL Certificate (Secure Sockets Layer) could be termed as the standard security technology for instituting an encrypted link between a browser and a web server.

This link also ensures that all data transmitted between the browsers and web server stays confidentially integral and private.

This certificate is issued by a Certificate Authority (CA), a trusted authority and normally has vital information such as name of the issuer, owner’s name, the expiration date and certificate holder’s public key.

An SSL Certificate is used when a website wants to accept confidentially sensitive information such as credit card details, password and more.

A website’s SSL can be viewed while clicking on the lock icon in a browser’s address bar.

Types Of SSL Certificates

There are three types of SSL

  • Comodo SSL
  • Positive SSL
  • Positive SSL Wildcard

Comodo SSL and Positive SSL are best suited for small blogs and websites and they provide security to one domain name.

However, a Positive SSL Wildcard offers primary domain name and sub-domains security and is a great package for large eCommerce websites, having 24/7 operating schedule and a huge customer base.
